Questions questions questions
How long does a dog photoshoot take?
In my experience dogs have a very short attention span (my dogs definitely do!), so i try and keep the photoshoots to half an hour, but it can vary. Within this time period I usually manage to capture all the shots that I need, utilising different sets and pieces of furniture. However, I'm always led by the dogs temperament, age and health, and tailor the photoshoots accordingly.
Its always good to have a chat first in my reception/viewing room just before the photoshoot in order to let them have a sniff around and to get to know each other a bit before the modelling begins! Also a short discussion afterwards as well, therefore its best to factor for an hour in total just in case :)
My dog is nervous/lively/over friendly/ won't sit still etc - is that ok?
Of course! I have 5 dogs myself (I know!) and have a wide range of experience in photographing dogs of all temperaments. Over the years I've developed many tricks to get even the most lively pooch's attention, so please don't worry.
Occasionally very nervous dogs are a bit scared of the studio flashes, but in that instance I turn them off and use window light, or even go outside as my studio is right next to the river.

I have more than one dog...can I bring them all along?
Yes! As long as all the dogs belong to you thats absolutely fine. My studio is quite large and I regularly have two or three dogs (or more!) in for a photoshoot. Its lovely to capture the closeness of dogs that are best friends.
If bringing multiple dogs into the studio its always helpful to bring someone with you to assist if thats possible, as I work alone and its great to have another pair of hands available if required!
Could I have a photo taken with my dog at the photoshoot?
Absolutely! Its very special to capture the love between you and your dog, and I always ask if you would like one or some of you together.
If you do think you would like to have a photo taken with your dog, its always good to pay attention to what you wear etc...plain colours are usually best, avoiding large logos and patterns if possible. Don't be too concerned though, whatever you feel relaxed in!
